To blog is to be

"The first lesson in blog writing is: be authentic. Whether you are reporting the news, writing an instructive article or even pure opinion, be clear and be you!"

- Keryl Allahdua, 'Writing For the Web' Montpellier 2016

Thank you, thank you very much! And it's good advice, if I do say so myself. So that's the challenge I issued to Magdalena and her classmates this past January. They're learning to write blogs in English and as simple as it sounds, its hard to define what 'authenic' is. So to egg them on, I decided to have them take the MBTI. It's a personality-type indicator often used for team building and recruitment. It's famous for being used by 89% of Fortune 100 companies, to assess individual character types. In other words, it's not just any old 'personality test'!

And so, without further ado, here's Magdalena's impressions of the test, as written for her blog:

Hey guys, guess what?
I just did the Myers-Briggs personality test!

Once upon a test...head
After more than 50 “hard” questions, my test reveals that I am an Extraverted, Intuitive , feeling, perceiving kind of person…..Mmhhhh ? A what ? An ENFP, 4 words which could mean a bit of everything. So I decided to read the complete description and I am impressed by what I’ve discovered...Well actually, if I really think about it, I am not really impressed by the test itself, I am just totally stunned by the quality of the test, that just 50 questions revealed so much about my personality !

Is this really me ?
Let's start with the things I think I am very close to. The ENFP ( yes, easier to write exactly what they did) wants to both help and to be liked and admired by other people, on both an individual and a humanitarian level. I don't really know how to explain this to you but they definitely have a point! ”They are outgoing and warm, and genuinely like people ”, good point again. I almost laughed when I read “they have a great deal of zany charm, which can ingratiate them to more stodgy types in spite of their unconventionality.” … Mhhh, I’m pretty sure that my friends and people I have just met would agree with this. It appears that we often have strong, if sometimes surprising, values and viewpoints. We apparently tend to try to use our social skills and contacts to persuade others gently...So true !

This description is kind of nice in general because it has showed me some great aspects of my personality such as: "ENFPs can be the warmest, kindest, and most sympathetic of mates; affectionate, demonstrative, and spontaneous". Well, nice to hear and it is true. Then they add "Many in relationships with an ENFP literally say, They light up my life!" Woooo woooo! OK, but no one has ever said that to me! Why?? How frustrating ! What's wrong with me? After half an hour wondering what's wrong with me, I’ve concluded that I just haven’t met the right man yet :-) hehe! Anyway, moving on! Just like my astrological sign, this test reveals that I love freedom and have a need for independence. I am an Aquarius :-) That's a part of the answer and personality!

 Are you serious ?

In the article, they write that "ENFPs are easily intrigued and distracted by new friends and acquaintances, forgetting their older and more familiar emotional ties for long stretches at a time." ??? What does that mean? No no no no! Bad point man!
Independant yes, I do still need others, but first come my friends and family to kidfeel happy and “filled” ;-) I guess you could not be 100 % correct with this crazy test :-) .Perhaps, he is not wrong when the author writes “Whenever they get the chance, they flip that switch and become CAPTAIN WILDCHILD. Sometimes they may even appear intoxicated when the "switch" is flipped. ” My mom used to say with her french accent “Magdalena you are too “soupe au lait”. I hate when she says that, but it’s true !

Mirror, Mirror, tell me about my future?

Apparently, people like me...( Hey, hold on, how many of us are there? ) “like to tell funny stories, especially about their friends. This penchant may be why many are attracted to journalism.” “Amazingly, other ENFPs “are adept at exacting disciplines such as mathematics ”.people

Mhhh ? Mathematics, no way , I am not even able to calculate how many hours of sleep I have every night! Me? Maths? Not a good match! Journalist? I studied tourism and International trade.. But I did do that kind of work once ! I don't know how, but I was hired to present the news, in Africa! Don't ask how, but it happened :-)

Let's be honest..

This test was relevant to me, and the last sentence of the article shut me up.. For those who know me just read this :

"More than one ENFP has abruptly quit a job"

That's sooooooooooooo me ! And you, what do you think guys ?
What’s your Myers-Briggs Personality Type?

BIO

Hi,

I am Magdalena, a 28 year old French woman, full of dreams! I worked for more than 4 years in the Tourism industry and I quit my job 2 years ago to...travel of course! I made a fantastic world tour for a year and half, and then came back to France. Then I found a job in Africa for 2 months, and came back again! I am currently participating in a "Web writing" training course.  I have just created my new website about traveling and my tips, 2 days ago and I am leaving in April to work on a boat cruise ! Yeaahh ! "On the road again" :-)
